Acai is usually available in the form of frozen puree, juice or powder. I would choose more juice purees and powders because there is less processing and oxidation. You can also get a better price for a whole food acai puree on "extra" Acai extracts, powders and juices.
I do not recommend using the acai juice as the liquid whipped because the flavor is strong enough. Pour into 4-6 ounces or more of acai juice could make a pretty powerful, hard-to-drink smoothie. The juice is more expensive. A stroke of pure acai juice is enough to flavor a good smoothie, but you will not get the health benefits of such a small dose.
Acai with its "wine and chocolate" flavor blends well with blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, cranberries and pomegranates. Apples, pears and red grapes also blend well with acai. Add cacao (raw chocolate) for a decadent, rich indulgence. Try young coconut in acai smoothies too. For fruit base, I recommend to stick with apple, pear and banana. You can experiment with mango, but this flavor combination may not work for everyone.
