Nutrition and health benefits

The acai berries are appreciated for their super high antioxidant content and possible phytonutrients fight against the disease. However, wild claims of supplement manufacturers that acai juice and powders can reverse diabetes , cancer and promote weight loss are unfounded and disproportionate .When it comes to antioxidant load of juice and acai powders, they are well within the range of other local fruits . Studies have shown that Concord grape juice and black cherry and red wine are the antioxidant content of polyphenols than acai juice .The acai berries are low in sugar in their whole form is good news for those of you on a diet low glycemic index. You will not find acai in the USDA nutritional database and information conclusively about the nutritional content of acai berries is limited. Various lyophilized powder mixtures show good levels of protein, calcium and vitamin A. The best way to enjoy the full nutrition of acai berries ( or any other whole food ), however, is to eat fresh or minimally processed as possible.Unfortunately, for those of us who live in North America and Europe, acai berries are not available in the produce section . Instead , we must rely on fruit juices , extracts and powders , often sold in the supplement section of some health food stores . Since fruit juices are not a whole food powders are highly processed , the nutrient content of acai has been significantly modified and reduced in these products. The power and the flavor does not justify the price you pay .For this reason , I recommend looking for the source of acai berry puree , which is expected to be frozen. I used puree products of Amafruits.com and I found that they were very high quality and delicious. They come in 3.5 oz (100 grams ) packets . Just take one out of the freezer and add it to your smoothie. You get a real part and an acai smoothie refrigerated at once !
